Witness meaninglessness, and yet, move on
if any of this makes sense, please explain
trouble follows him wherever he goes
heaven and hell, the afterlife, all gone
take a moment to breathe and to let go
help make the world a better place, his brain
explodes each day, full of pain and sorrows
witness Atlas hold up the earth, the weight
everlasting as Everest, the snow
interminable, how he keeps his hold
given how slippery the slope of thought
haunted by memories, a past too bold
titanic endeavors end, a bird caught
obscenely in the mouth of a cat, late
for the train, have to wait, let the boss know
travel the world, tour on a motorbike
how dreams fall to the wayside for a job
endeavors become fruitless, angry crow
witness, with two others, Christ on the cross
obviously, Atlas sees where they hike
research the mountaintop, corn on the cob
little is known of his punishment, time
dwindles for all others, not for the boss
objectives come and go, but Atlas stays
never leaves but stays put, holding the earth
held gently, a cradle, as he obeys
instructions never to defy his worth
still, does his punishment not fit the crime
shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, he grows
honest with thoughtfulness, never ages
ogre that keeps the earth aloft to spin
until the emperor wears his new clothes
left alone as the sun dies in stages
death by supernova, a rubbish bin
eras of history end with death throes
religion and all faith create cages
suffer until enjoyment dies with sin
