Ashes and dust discern truth from falsehood
shallow graves dug by serial killers
honey dripping from high up overhead
elm trees, the bees buzzing, the silent wood
shelf after shelf, row after row, of books

answers to questions, the empty fillers
nothing but riddles to resolve, rye bread
dark, dense black bread bakes away the worst dreams

distant lands, ancestors with fishing hooks
undermine certainty, ideas of home
severed from family by love and work
transfer these emotions under the dome

difficult to sleep, dreams come with a jerk
imagine time connected, all these dreams
sentence after sentence, meaning to find
captured in phrases, in unspoken words
elegant as halls of mirrors, reflect
reflect, reflect the light that bends to bind
noble born kings and queens, choices connect

travelers' tales from time to time, the birds
reminisce over songs, builders erect
underpass after underpass, sleepers
troubled by the roughest dreams disconnect
honesty from honest lies, as light binds

forensic science from fresh shallow graves
religion sets a corpse six feet, some kinds
obviate the need for depth, dust behaves
murderously, walls famous for creepers

for ivy covering smokestack chimneys
ashes answer questions on life and death
love walks hand in hand, head on shoulder, sweet
sweet honey bee over the fragrant seas
eastern light bends beyond the horizon
horizontal appearance of the sun
objections to the rule of law, the breath
obeys the direction of the wind, cheat
death, rough sleepers prefer to wait a beat
