Yes, Welcome to the Late, Great Planet Earth

You may be right, make fun of everyone
eternity Iasts only a moment
such was our raison d'être in this hell

welcome to the late, great planet earth, folks
everyone is fair game to imitate
little kids never care one iota
come as you are, the cow the farmer milks
only if you look funny, we will laugh
maybe as adults, we will grow up, fight
everyone else, blips on the screen, data
today, nobody cares whether we whine
or act professional, a childhood gaffe

theater of great apes, if we should rant
high heaven, prove to us, we were once small
everyone is so serious, no joke

laugh at all the chimpanzees, smoke a spliff
ask all the dumb monkeys in suits and ties
tell us why identity and status
ends up horribly meaningless, pay dues

garner attention, make money, buy gas
recall the cookies your mom used to bake
empty the recycling, take out the trash
ask no questions, say less, do all your chores
time slips away, childhood long gone, to cry

plainly shows how much no one cares, you wish
litter did not exist, a metaphor
ask who cares for all the forest fires
nobody answers your question, a tree
emerges only to fall, do you hear
the sound of one hand clapping, have no fear

emptiness cannot swallow you, old age
advances as young saplings try to flex
reality says, stay limber, your pudge
thanks you for enjoying your life, your socks
have holes, let go, no more corporate whore
