As with my favorite cokehead stockbroker
time will tell if we ever speak again

let it be known that he is my brother
except he cares as much as a bagel
as we have no business, it may make sense
suffering from trauma, the latch-key gone
the art of friendship, carry a ladle

nobody knows as no one ever asks
only white lies offered accepts the dance
to invite somebody out on a date

in this world, the rules are, play nice or else
not a word out of place, people act staid

the way alcoholics act sober, smarts
how much it hurts, confusion, taking risks
each day, out of control, without guidance

wake up to my family, in the nut house
at least, people tried to act rational
yes, I spent a fortnight inside, mind dense

thicket of dysfunction, malnutrition
habitation loss from tough love, what grace
adopted from the war on drugs, channel
thoughtlessness into mindfulness, decades

attached to wrongheaded views, hydration
demands vigilance, am I his keeper
understand, he kicked me out when madness
let me act strange, stand in the dark, cover
the pot, turn down the heat, simmer, fateless
sobriety left me followed by kites

as a field mouse in the big world, harbor
reality with no ill will, ageless
edification, the ocean subsides
